Siouxsie and The Banshees Reuniting to Perform at Rebellion Festival In 2018 Is A Hoax – Digital Rookies

Reports that Siouxsie and The Banshees are reuniting to perform at Rebellion Festival in 2018 are false. Rumors that the English rock band is playing the annual punk rock festival stemmed from a prank news website.

According to Hoax Alert, the fake claim originated on React365, a prank news website that allows users to trick their friends by creating hoaxes. The extremely brief article, which was allegedly shared thousands of times, claimed that the band was temporarily reuniting next year to play the Rebellion Festival in the UK. It purported:

Breaking news , siouxsie & the banshees are set to briefly be reforming for the rebellion festival 2018 , further updates to come

The “report,” however, is entirely fabricated. The band has not announced that they are reuniting and the Rebellion Festival does not feature them on their line-up page. The user-generated hoax website clearly states in their disclaimer that articles are not mean to be taken seriously:

This website is an entertainment website, news are created by users. These are humourous news, fantasy, fictional, that should not be seriously taken or as a source of information.

Hoaxes created on React365, and other prank news websites like it, often end up attracting a lot of attention because, when shared on social media, the articles look genuine. Users only need to create a fake title, write a short description and upload a convincing photo to produce an article, which is meant to prank a person’s friends. The stories, however, can end up going viral due to their deceptive nature.

Songkick reports that the last Siouxsie and The Banshees concert was nine years ago and Siouxsie Sioux has stated over the years that any type of reunion is unlikely. Additionally, posts to their Facebook page are few and far between—the last one, a video of their Dear Prudence cover, is from September and they have not shared any news about possible reunions.

According to the Uncut, the band “briefly reformed” in 2002 for their Seven-Year Itch tour after disbanding in 1996. Sioux eventually pursued a solo career in 2004. In 2009, the former frontwoman told Metro that talks of a Siouxsie and The Banshees reunion were out of the question. She reemerged in 2015 with her first new song in eight years for the “Hannibal” finale.

23rd of September 1983 The Banshees’ version of Dear Prudence made it’s way out into the world…
